| Behind the Words
I'M THE GIRL - "everybody knows" I was inspired to write this song from a relationship standpoint, where the girl is waiting for her man to commit. Waiting for him to cut his previous ties, she realizes two things: 1) everybody knows of them and 2) no matter what the outcome, he will never release her from his memory.
BLUE EYED SOUL - is not just the title song from the album - it is a song of discovery! My discovery of that something unknown which is always around - encouraging me to keep on singing and continue climbing that mountain of dreams. The words "I've been here before" really do ring true - I feel I am put here to sing. In other words, "I'm still walkin' life's highway" (Luckily!)
WILDERNESS BOUND - As I travel through life so far, many a lesson I have learned. Lessons about love, about finding myself, granting forgiveness to others, and plain good living! There's a place I go, one of silence, where I shut out this whole world of commotion, and to me, that place soothes, teaches and guides me to be a better person no matter what life deals. Yes it's true, from now on I'm "wilderness bound" and this too shall pass.
BREAKING MY HEART - What can I say? I suppose this song is a typical story of love that seems to end on a one-sided basis...Have you ever asked "is it over? Or are we getting our signals crossed?" The lack of communication in a relationship is not a good thing, and when someone doesn't return your phone calls, you definetly wonder - should I say goodbye or hang around waiting?
STILL FEELS GOOD - This song is written in memory of someone that I loved - they left their shoes, they smoked Pall Mall Straights, they left "I love you" messages on my answering machine. They left me in charge of receiving their mail...When I think of this person it still feels good because I have a lifetime of fantastic memories. I miss you everyday...
WINDOW TO HER HEART - is written for my husband's parents, Millie and Larry. I wrote this song after spending an afternoon with Millie when she broke her shoulder. It had been 4 years since we lost Larry and I believe part of him is still here. I have learned that a lonely heart can be soothed by spending just a few hours with someone in need...
COCONINO CAFE - was written during our rafting trip down the Grand Canyon. It was so much fun and I felt so relaxed - no cell phones, no TV, no radio. It was quite serene, and all of the people were a blast. I also realized the importance of "having the time of your life" everyday!
WATER'S EDGE - a song I wrote for Robert while we were in the Grand Canyon at Havasu Falls. He went to hike further up the mountain while I waded in a small, clear blue pond at the bottom of the falls. A butterfly landed on my feet...the sun was kissing my face...I was thinking of him and couldn't wait for his return. When we came home, I finished the song on our front porch with the "birds singing". Robert even helped me and wrote the third verse to the song "And now, as seasons change"...
LANDING AT O'HARE - written after returning to O'Hare from a Las Vegas trip one August night. That weekend was a long time ago; the words have been with me for many years, and I finally completed the song in 2001. A reminder of a "different time, different place". Sometimes things are better left lost in time and "I know how it feels"...
SHE'S FREE - this is what I call a "chick song". I began writing this song about a friend of mine/and a fellow songwriter, and her victory of finding peace and freedom in her life. She now lives way out in the hills far away, and she really is living on top of a mountain!
WHY COULDN'T LOVE BE STRONG? - this song is written by Sharon L. Becker, a very talented singer/songwriter. This song really touched my heart the very first time I ever heard it. When she presented it to me with the chance to record it, I was delighted! Her words seemed to touch me so deeply and I am thrilled to have this on my album. Thanks so much, Sharon for your love and permission, and thanks to Pamela for introducing us!
